A welcome under the sign of eco-tourism…

Welcome to Pont-Farcy, Tessy-Bocage in the heart of La Manche

We offer two horse-drawn caravans and a guest room for rent, in a green area planted with apple trees, for one night or a longer stay.

Always sensitive to respecting nature and living things, we have been committed for many years.

In the process of moving towards zero waste, we promote reuse.

We cultivate a vegetable garden, a few fruit trees, and the maintenance of the areas is carried out without chemical inputs

Convinced that our way of consuming has an impact on the territory and on a larger scale, we favor short and organic circuits.

We are lucky to be surrounded by passionate producers who offer quality products and we are keen to introduce them to you.

Why this name “Chez Marie Roulotte”? Our reception center is located in Pont-Farcy, commune of Tessy-Bocage, in an old farmhouse. Marie and her family lived here for a long time. When the farm was sold, the new occupants indicated that they lived “at Marie’s”, because the place was known to everyone in the village. We take up the torch, with gratitude for those who came before us.

What really is a horse-drawn caravan ?

It is a chassis, or a trailer, with mainly 2 axles, one of which is directional, designed like a real little house on wheels, with often basic comfort: a bed, a stove, everything you need for cooking.

At the time caravans appeared, at the beginning of the 19th century, they were pulled by horses (sometimes donkeys), harnessed alone, in pairs or more. These dwellings were reserved for nomads. They have been called caravans, horse caravans, verdines, bohemian habitats... The gypsy caravan measures from 3 to 10 meters long. She was the traveling companion of itinerant merchants, repairers, basket weavers, pruners, scrap dealers, day workers, and also especially fairground workers and circus performers.

Times have changed, nomadic communities have become more settled and have opted for vehicles more suited to our so-called “modern” society. Their language, their culture, however, continues to live on, being passed down from generation to generation. Coming across horse-drawn caravans on the roads today is a real blessing. They remain in the collective imagination a symbol of simple life, music, and the freedom of traveling peoples.

So, does setting up a caravan these days, in a Normandy meadow, make sense ???

Yes, for us, absolutely.

Because our time needs dreams, escape, enchantment, and at the same time, anchoring, simplicity, contact with nature, a return to the essential and the Living. Nomadic life required adapting day by day, depending on the wind, encounters, hazards and chances.

Take on challenges, big or small, get out of your comfort zone, remove your brakes and barriers, live outside, evaluate your real needs, your priorities, your relationship with resources, learn to know yourself better, immerse yourself in nature for a night, for a few days, to rediscover the simple tastes of childhood, to consider minimalism... the caravan invites us to all this, like the setting for a gentle inner journey...

A trailer is a welcoming, lightweight, so-called “reversible” habitat, meaning it can be easily removed without harming the land on which it resides. For us, it is a beautiful illustration of the way we want to be in the world: beneficial, transient, respectful of the Earth.
